Funkengroovin - Terryville, CT Bug-A-Fair 2009, Swap & Meet Buses

These Buses were all in the Swap and Meet area at Terryville.

NEWS:

From Pakistan to Paris, by VW Beetle
"A French doctor is embarking on the 6,000-mile trip to promote a better image of Pakistan. 'It's not all about terrorism,' he says."

"The Beetle came to Pakistan in the 1950s with army officers and bureaucrats returning from postings abroad. The appeal has endured – Mubashir Hasan, a finance minister from the 1970s, still drives his around Lahore. Romano Karim of Islamabad's VW club estimates about 500 "Foxies" travel Pakistan's roads. "Cute, quirky, cheap spare parts – it's the ideal car," he says.

The French doctor's Foxy should reach Paris in about two weeks. His team is equipped with an ample stock of spare parts and a line of Urdu poetry inscribed on the bonnet: "Every mother's prayer is a breeze from paradise.""

VB's gotten several e-mails about this.  If you haven't heard of it, then you're not living on planet earth!

And now for the sequel:
Woman would like to buy back long-lost VW van
"SPOKANE, Wash. — Michele Squires once owned the 1965 Volkswagen van that was found recently in a shipping container at a Southern California port — 35 years after she had it stolen from a repair shop."

"She'd now like to buy it back."
Route 66 artist's life coming to an end (Video at the link)
"For decades, Bob Waldmire lived on the "Mother Road," wandering the remnants of Route 66 in his orange VW bus and selling his intricate, India-ink artwork from Santa Monica, Calif., to Pontiac, Ill."

"The Route 66 Alliance plans to put Waldmire's 1972 VW on permanent display at its planned Tulsa, Okla., museum and fund art scholarships and an annual prize in his name."
Rootstock: Peace, Love and Beaujolais Nouveau
"NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - November 5, 2009) - Les Vins Georges Duboeuf will "share the love" for the 2009 Beaujolais Nouveau arrival on Thursday, November 19th -- the official release date of this fruity wine that celebrates the end of the harvest and gives a foretaste of this year's vintage (reported to be one of the best vintages in the past 50 years). In both New York and Miami, "Peace, Love and Beaujolais Nouveau" vintage VW 'Love Buses,' escorted by Beaujolais Biker Chefs and wine-loving hippies, will help launch a week-long food drive and deliver the first cases of Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau wine to the official "sip-in" uncorking ceremonies."

You must be 21 to enter, but go here to see an animated version of the VW Bus delivery.

How many days until Christmas?  VB doesn't start counting until after Thanksgiving, but we'll give it a start.  So far - it doesn't look good.

Funkengroovin - Terryville, CT Bug-A-Fair 2009, Rusted!

A few rusted VWs from Terryville. VB was disappointed as there seemed to be more last year, but still.... These were all situated in the Swap and Meet area. The Bus in the first photo below, was definitely at Terryville last year. The others - not sure. (Only photos today , as the dust has not yet settled in the CT house. We're still in the process of doing whatever it is we've been doing.)

Also - check out, The Original VW Camper Cookbook: 80 Tasty Recipes Specially Composed for Cooking in a Camper, from Barnes & Noble or from Amazon. They even have a YouTube Video advertising the book. Let VB add that another book, Cooking With the Dead: Recipes and Stories from Fans on the Road [Over 65 fabulous kynd and caring vegetarian recipes prepared with love] (Paperback), also focuses on cooking on the road, albeit sans the VW Bus photos. Oh, and if you're curious about what The Dead ate while they were touring, then read this article from 1994: NOTICED; Cooking For the 'Dead'. VB had pre-ordered the VW Camper Cookbook a few months ago and was supposed to receive it tomorrow. Amazon just informed VB, that the new estimated delivery date is now September 28.

Funkengroovin Wednesday - Maadi Has A Woodie

Last week VB received two e-mails, but the comments were somehow not recorded on the blog page:

kaya has left a new comment on your post "Funkengroovin - Terryville, CT Bug-A-Fair 2":

"OOh I love that interior too. And those Beetles all in a row is adorable."

kaya has left a new comment on your post "Funkengroovin - Terryville, CT Bug-A-Fair 2":

"Sometimes I find it hard to open the comments box. Is it my inability or something to do with my comp."

Kaya: Thanks, VB really likes that red interior, and thinks it would look great in the '65 Beetle Convertible she and The Boss Man are having restored. (But, The Boss Man wants an engine that will get about 100 horsepower.) We have started working on it again, so VB hopes to post some photos eventually.

As for the comments, VB has no idea what happened. Not all the Blogger elements work on her computer, since she's a MAC user - most (but not all) work with Firefox, and not so well with Safari. Blogger seems to be very compatible with Windows though. VB did notice that you posted at the same time they had provided a new element to the page layout (which didn't really even show up for VB until a few days later.) VB sat and held her breath, thinking that the comment would surely show up. Only a humorous quote from Little Britain seems to explain it: "The computer says noo."

VB found this Beetle conversion in Maadi, Digla one day. You don't see these around too often.

(Below two photos): Another Beetle conversion from the "Bug-A-Fair" in Terryville, CT. Take note: Engine is up front.

Please see previous post for all the news.

VB goes to New Hampshire this weekend for The Rhubarb Tour of A Prairie Home Companion live, with Garrison Keillor, on Sunday evening.

Next Tuesday she takes the Vanagon to Jon in Maine for a new speedometer, and a tachometer. Included in this trip, would be a visit to the Freeport, Maine flagship LL Bean Store (open 24 hours, 365 days a year!)

Since it's the summer, and we're off on a few day trips, here's a favorite song of VB's from all those "National Lampoon Vacation" movies:

National Lampoon's Vacation Original Theatrical Trailer

Just for extra fun, here's a photo of Six Flags New England, which is not far from our house. As a matter of fact, we get all kinds of dimwits driving through our small town, en route to this abomination! (VB hates amusement parks. She does not think they're very amusing, at all.)

Funkengroovin Wednesday - Terryville, CT Bug-A-Fair 3

News will be posted separately this week.

(Below): The Dunne Buggy.

(Below): Double Trouble.

(Below): One of VB's favorite photos. She loves the patina, and the colors, and the fact that all these owners very artistically / strategically lined up their cars.

(Below): VB's new garden accessory (it would drive her "condo association" members crazy!)

(Below): VB likes this interior.
